These fun and practical activities will leave you feeling great!

man standing at edge of woodsWant to get active but don't like exercise and sports? If you are able, there are lots of other practical and fun things you can do that are good for your body. How about walking to work or taking the stairs up to your office? Maybe you can ride your bike instead of taking the bus. Why not make it a group activity? Get your co-workers together and form a ride club.

Whatever activity you choose to do, to get the many health benefits exercise provides, the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology’s physical activity guidelines external link, recommends that adults do 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic activity each week and incorporate muscle and bone strengthening twice a week.
That’s at least 30 minutes of activity, 5 days a week.

Try being a kid again. Play schoolyard games like tag or milk cartoon hockey with your adult friends. You'll have fun and get a great workout!'

Your hobbies are another great way to get active. Bird watching means a walk in the woods. Nature photography gets you hiking. These are two of the many activities that let you discover Ontario's gorgeous provincial parks.

Try dancing... It's a wonderful way to get your body going.

And there are other creative ways of being active: improv games and acting classes take you out of the audience and put you on stage where you can explore the way your body moves. Why not join an amateur theatre group and let the spotlight shine on you?

Imagine how many exciting things you can do to stay active. Think about the many ways you use your body every day and look at all the alternatives out there. You're sure to discover all kinds of healthy fun to keep you fit and bring a smile to your face.
