Getting a Head Start on Active Living

30 minutes of brisk daily walking is all you need

It's easier to get active than you think. All it takes is the equivalent of 30 minutes of brisk daily walking if you are able. That's why it's shocking that 55% of Ontarians are inactive and getting less of out life than they should.

You can fit 30 minutes of brisk walking into your daily schedule every day of the year no matter how old you are or what shape you're in. The results will astound you. You'll find yourself full of energy and you'll feel terrific.

Whatever you choose, go at your own pace and stay within your limits. Have fun and keep doing it. The more you exercise, the better you'll feel but if you stop exercising you could lose all your health gains in as little as two weeks.

Once you've started walking, you'll probably want to do even more. And you're in luck because Ontario's a year-round playground where you'll find clean lakes, natural snow, fields and forests, and a host of facilities where you can take part in many exciting activities.

To really get things going, set a simple goal like going for a brisk half-hour walk every day at lunchtime, riding your bike to work, or going for a swim after supper a few nights a week. You can also set a longer-term goal like getting in shape, losing weight, or training for a charity walk, a 10k run or a bike-a-thon.

You can fit 30 minutes of brisk walking into your daily schedule.

If you haven't been active for a while or have any medical problems, talk to your doctor before starting to exercise again.

Get active today. It's easy. It's fun. And you'll feel fantastic!
