About the Bid

Venue Plan | Pan American Village

Toronto 2015 logoThere are many reasons for Canadians, and people living in Southern Ontario in particular, to be excited about hosting the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games in Toronto. The key benefits of hosting the Games focus on sport development and community development.

  • On October 2, 2008, Ontario’s bid to host the 2015 Pan American Games was launched at an event in Toronto that hosted over 500 sport, business and cultural leaders.
  • The Ontario Government is leading the bid to host the 2015 Pan Am Games in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
  • Premier McGuinty called on former Premier David Peterson to chair the 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games Bid.
  • The Canadian Olympic Committee endorses the Bid, which is supported by all three levels of government and other partners committed to the Games budget of $1.4 billion.
  • The Games will attract 10,000 athletes and officials, welcome 250,000 tourists and trigger 15,000 jobs in construction, tourism and event support. Close to 19,000 volunteers will help host and run the Games.
  • Bid competitors were Bogota, Colombia and Lima, Peru.
