CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION & HEALTH PROMOTION

The old adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure has taken on new meaning in the 21st century: health care costs are rising and Ontario’s population is both growing and aging, and health care costs for chronic diseases are rising.
That’s why the Ministry of Health Promotion is committed to creating and promoting programs and policies as well as providing access to resources and information for the people of Ontario so they can live healthier lives.
Whether preventing chronic diseases - such as heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, diabetes, and some types of cancer – or preventing injuries, substance abuse and addictions to gambling or substances, the Ministry of Health Promotion works with like-minded Public Health Units, health and education agencies, voluntary associations, charitable and community-based organizations, stakeholders, and with other ministries and levels of government for a healthier Ontario.
By promoting and encouraging Ontarians to make healthy choices at all ages and stages of life, and by creating environments and introducing policies that support health, the Ministry of Health Promotion is at the forefront of the nation's efforts to prevent chronic diseases and injuries.
