HEALTH PROMOTION: Public Health in Ontario
For Ontario’s culturally diverse population, being healthy and active means different things to different people. To reach our society’s most vulnerable and serve the general population, it is very important that we work with a variety of partners including municipal and federal levels of government, other provincial ministries and community-based organizations.
To meet the needs of our population, the ministry works very closely with 36 Public Health Units that are geographically located throughout the province. By working together, we develop partnerships and networks that support healthy initiatives and education – at the community level.
The Ministry of Health Promotion supports the work of 36 Public Health Units across the province by providing provincial direction and funding to facilitate activities and programs to meet local needs.
Public Health Units administer health promotion and disease prevention programs to inform and educate Ontarians about the importance of healthy eating and active living, tobacco-free living and smoke-free environments.
