The Government of Ontario's Sport and Physical Activity Strategy

The goal of ACTIVE 2010, Ontario’s Sport and Physical Activity Strategy, is to increase Ontario’s sport and physical activity participation rate so that by the year 2010, at least 55 per cent of adult Ontarians aged 20 years and over are physically active.

ACTIVE2010 is about improving the health and quality of life in Ontario through sport and physical activity. It focuses its attention where the greatest need exists; seeking to improve opportunities for children and youth, women and girls, Aboriginal Ontarians, low socio-economic groups, ethnic minorities, older adults and Ontarians with a disability.

ACTIVE2010 will result in a culture of physical activity and sport participation that directly contributes to healthier Ontarians, stronger communities, and reduced health care costs.

ACTIVE2010 consists of two components: physical activity promotion and amateur sport development.

Physical activity promotion focuses on sedentary living and encourages Ontarians to look for enjoyable ways to make physical activity a regular part of their daily lives. Sport development provides Ontarians of all ages with the opportunity to participate in sport activities that suit their abilities and aspirations.
