SPORT & RECREATION: Sport
Amateur sport is important to the quality of life in the province of Ontario. Sport provides role models for the pursuit of personal excellence, exemplifies the value of teamwork and builds community pride. Competitive amateur sport also stimulates broadly based participation in physical activity, leading to better health, higher productivity and a stronger social fabric.
Multi-sport games provide the competitive opportunities athletes need to develop their talents and achieve excellence. In the host communities, these events encourage the creation of lasting partnerships, produce substantial economic benefits and help develop sport at the community level.
Ontario's most outstanding athletes and coaches are recognized each year through the Ontario Sports Awards. This provincial program also honours exemplary volunteers and corporate sponsors who have contributed to their community through support for amateur sports across the province.
